How to bring up the 'V' card subtly?

I'm going out with a guy tonight...we've been friends for about a year, but he's extremely shy around girls and I don't feel like he has much (if any) experience. I'm 22, he's 24, and I feel like it would put him at ease knowing I'm a virgin. However, its quite the 'heavy topic' to bring up right away...but I'm afraid he'll bolt if he thinks that I want more physically from him than he could give. Thoughts?
