Should the US legalize Marijuana?

i've been reading alot about mexico and other latin american countries going thru a dramatic increase in violence due to the drug trade. in Mexico for example in 2006 their president started to combat the drug problem head on,but, that has resulted in multiple attacks on police officers, journalist, public officials and inoccent bystanders at an alarming rate of killings. Since the US is the # 1 customer of this drug should our country start to think about legalizing this drug. What effect do you think it will have on our society and will it eventually lead to our ruin or will it benefit not only our countrys economy but stabilize other countries problems aswell.
